Anointing of the Sick

This sacrament is only bestowed upon those who are seriously ill, suffering, or old age which then unites the inflicted with Christ’s passion. This sacrament is administered by anointing the forehead and hands of the person with chrism while a priest administers a special blessing. This special blessing connects the ill with God’s love and grace so he/she will have increased strength in body, mind, and soul.

  • “Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord.”  James 5:14
  • “And they cast out many demons and anointed with oil many who were sick and healed them.”  Mark 6:13
  • “This was to fulfill what was spoken by the prophet Isaiah: ‘He took our illnesses and bore our diseases.’”  Matthew 8:17

Our Parish celebrates this sacrament individually (after Mass) and during a Sunday liturgy annually. Please see a Parish Pastoral Team member to arrange for an anointing after Mass or contact the Parish Office. It is best to arrange the anointing while the person who is ill can participate.
